German Shepherd Dog (Alsatian)

German Shepherds are a large-breed dog which generally are between 55 and 65 centimeters (22 and 26 in) at the withers and weigh between 22 and 40 kilograms (49 and 88 lb). The ideal height is 63 centimeters (25 in), according to Kennel Club standards. They have a domed forehead, a long square-cut muzzle and a black nose.
The jaws are strong, with a scissor-like bite. The eyes are medium-sized and brown with a lively, intelligent, and self-assured look. The ears are large and stand erect, open at the front and parallel, but they often are pulled back during movement. They have a long neck, which is raised when excited and lowered when moving at a fast pace. The tail is bushy and reaches to the hock.

German Shepherds sport a double coat. The outer coat, which is shed all year round, is close and dense with a thick undercoat. The dog's hair is slightly longer and coarser on its neck and the back- sides of its legs.

The German Shepherd is an enthusiastic and happy dog, and this breed generally shows loyalty and affection combined with confidence, courage and superior intelligence. They are extremely loyal and protective, but providing they have been properly socialized and looked after, do not tend to be aggressive.

The German Shepherd is a big dog that needs space to exercise and play. Therefore this breed is more suited to an environment with plenty of room and a garden or yard in which he is more likely to be active. The German Shepherd can be kept in an apartment, but will need to be regularly exercised.

The impression of the dog as a whole is one of ruggedness combined with nobility, of power combined with agility. There should be a sense of balance, forequarters and hindquarters compensating each other in their development. The outline should be smooth and flowing, and the topline of the dog, from the ear to the tip of the full tail, a single sweeping succession of unbroken curves. The German Shepherd Dog is a natural dog, unchanged for any whim of the
show ring.

  1. German Shepherd is very lovable dog, he just enjoys company of human beings, they r big dogs, physically, but they can b real buddy of a small child too, they r gentle breed of dog, i just love german shepherd, for their sheer quality of gentleness in them, i had a wonderful German Shepherd, who was cute and gentle, he use to jump to catch flies and play hide and seek with children in our home, he was just another child in our home, who reminded of us another child trying to catch butterflies, or play with ball and wanted to keep to himself, not wanting to share with anyone, like any other child............i miss him!
